Lola and the Green Weiner

I mentioned the toy that Lola picked out and I think it is worth mentioning that it is still a favorite around here. It even has a name (all credit goes to Maddie). The Green Weiner. It's kindof like the green lantern except really not having any special powers. Fuzzy and squeaky do not count as special powers.

Anyways I'm very sorry not to have updated in a while but we had some awesome visitors that were just too much fun to hang out with! First, MADDIE. Who visited when she came up to play Portland. She got to come visit Lola and I for a few hours first. Then Mom and Dad came for a night before jetsetting down to see Mads's next game and heading to Hawaii for the week. Also we started school this week. Lola is in beginning obedience! And let me tell you I can already tell she's going to be a star of the class. She has 'sit' perfected to an art and walks (mostly) tug-free on the leash! So we've been pretty busy.

Unfortunately Lola has also developed a terrible ... um.... ok so she has really bad gas. Madeleine has taken to calling her the 'fart-bomb' which nobody really appreciates. After a can of pumpkin and many hours hoping the problem would just resolve itself... a sulfurous cloud continues to follow Lola wherever she goes. I am hoping that more pumpkin and a weekend at home will improve the situation! Heading home to the Beaver game this weekend!

And no matter how stinky she is, I still love her.

Mom came to visit!

YAY!
Mom's visits are the best. She always brings goodies (this time it was tax papers for me and a squeaky toy for Lola) and somehow she just understands both of us. Whether we are being silly:

or getting sleepy:
I don't really know how she does it with her busy schedule - but it's always awesome when she stops by for a visit. This weekend it was on the way to go see Maddie's extremely awesome soccer games! Yayyyyy Maddie! And this Thursday Mads comes up to Portland for a game so I'm looking forward to seeing her. And the whole rest of the family. And I know that Lola is too!

Also today we went to petco because Lola ate her entire 30 lb bag of food. I thought we would have it for a while but no.... 1 giant bag in a little over a month. That means she's eating quite possibly almost a pound a day. While at Petco I could not help picking up some different treats to hide for her while I'm at work and I also let Lola pick out a toy. Based on her taste level this may be the last time she is allowed to pick without guidance. Because she picked a 2 ft long lime green double squeaker soft puppy toy. It's very similar to Minnie's yellow one.... except about 5 times bigger. and lime green. see picture: http://source-www.petco.com/assets/product_images/8/800443057100b.jpg
oh yes.... she picked out the Jumbo size. Also while at Petco I noticed their Halloween costume selection! As Lola and I live in a neighborhood this will be the first Halloween that I might have trick or treaters! Therefore we need costumes. Current ideas include:
hotdog and hamburger (lola is hotdog)
scooby doo and thelma (I feel like kids these days might not know scooby doo)
.......
for those of you who know me well you know that I really don't like Halloween so my ideas are few and far between. However I am taking suggestions!

Awkward Safeway Stories

Full disclosure: this post is one of those that is really mostly mainly not about Lola

Instead I am going to tell you about the most awkward Safeway experience I have ever had. So I may have told some of you this but apparently there is an unwritten code about who shops when. Monday afternoon: Pregnant people. Sunday evening: Single people. I discovered this when I accidentally went to Safeway on a Monday. I don't know when other people shop because, frankly, after the Monday experience I was slightly afraid to try any other day. So I stick to Sundays. Anyways this Sunday I was in line at the checkout with my normal cart full of greek yogurt, fruit, and whatever else looks good at the time (this week it was cliff bars and jimmy dean breakfast sandwiches). I start to put my items on the conveyer and then I hear the guy behind me say, "do you like that yogurt?".... I look down at the conveyer belt with 8 containers of chobani yogurt.... me: "um... yeah it's my favorite greek yogurt!" him: "well good because I got a lot" and then he shows me the largest container purchasable of strawberry chobani yogurt. Great for him. Love yogurt chit chat in the checkout. So that's slightly awkward but fine... moving on. So I start talking to the checker because my club card isn't registering and after swiping my card she asks me "are you two together?" referring to me and the guy behind me. I  (confused) say, "no, I put one of those dividers between our items" her: "no... I meant are you 'together'?".... at this point.... my only reply was "no" and my only thought was "dear lord this is the most awkward checker I've ever had!"... I don't even remember telling her I didn't need help out... I just swiped my credit card and ran....

Carol... I will not be stopping by your checkstand any longer!

Also... I'm in the market for another night to shop.... may try tuesday next week

Lola's stay at the Scooby Shack

what a weekend! I got to go down to San Fransisco and see some friends (Kay, Patrick, Neha, Alex, and Alexa!) and of course Maddie's AWESOME SOCCER GAME. It was so much fun to take the three day weekend to do something really really fun and see some people I don't get to see every day. It was awesome to see Maddie and her friends too - really Maddie is just awesome so any time I get to see her is exciting!

While I was having all of this fun Lola was at... the Scooby Shack! I boarded her for the first time and (not surprisingly) she was their favorite puppy of the weekend! They said she was on her best behavior and a pleasure to have. I think she probably had a ton of fun because she's been sleeping since I picked her up! I missed her a lot but I'm glad she was a good dog and didn't get in any fights or have problems with any big mean dogs. She is neither big, nor mean, but might take a day or two to get back to her normal destructive self :)

Puppy School Week (5!) Update

I can't believe it was already week 5! of 6! Based on Lola's progress I promptly signed her up for obedience class.... she starts the week after puppy school ends! Because this is my second post of the night I will keep it short and list the developments/highlights below:

1) Lola outgrew her xs collar! which means her neck is officially bigger than 14". And means she is officially still getting bigger
2) No playtime. although lola and duke were upset - they got to go through obstacles! Lola went first... no fear... she did it perfectly!
3) Roxy puked again. damn cheetos.

Tomorrow I have to take Lola to the boarding place for the weekend :( I know she will have fun but I will MISS her! although this does mean I get to spend a fun labor day weekend seeing friends and family ( yay Maddie!) in California... and I can finally clean the house and do laundry tomorrow night. It's odd to look forward to doing that but while Lola's being watched I may as well get some housework done! She still likes to eat the broom and generally impedes any cleaning efforts..... Anyways update on the drop-off tomorrow!
